2001 740il cell phone

I have a question????? This car has the startac flip phone model 6401 built in the center console. Can this phone still be activated or is this a dead dinasour?
I would like to use the phone if possible.
Or.........since this is a startac can it be switched with the ST7800 series phone? it uses the same plug in.........
If you know, let me know.

Plug the phone in and try dialing any number. You'll get a recording from whichever service it was last activated on. Then you can call them and ask if they'll activate it.

I think it will be hard to activate it, unless you already have a service on another phone with the same service provider. Then you might be able to activate the BMW phone with your existing number. But if you have a different service provider than the Startac phone - I think you are out of luck. In that case you could buy a used BMW phone for your car on ebay to work with your existing phone service provider - of course if you care about the integration. I care, so every so often when my phone breaks, I buy used on ebay and call my SP to activate, even though the phone is a dinosaur.
