Access to screen phone menu in 740i

Looking for help! Just replaced the handset on my 2001 740i, but I still cannot get the screen to access the phone. The car has the widescreen disply, the phone works as a handset, but when plugged in (it does charge on the car, so the lead must have power) the "Telephone" option on the screen does nothing - it should go into the phone menu and present dialling options etc. for the plumbed in handsfree functionality. It just sits there at the top menu.......

Any advice would be very gratefully received.
