Alarm keeps going off

I have a 2000 740i and when I hit the lock button, sometimes not always, the alarm goes off 1 -2 minutues later. I have also tried to disable the motion sensor by hitting hte lock twice, again sometimes the alarm goes off. It is getting cold outside and becoming annoying standing there waiting to see if the car will go off.
