i've riden in cars with 20 inches and every bump you go over you fear for the rims. looks great but not very practical. 18inches or 19 inches will allow more rubber but ask wheel shops for best comfort. any rims 18 inch and larger are expensive to maintain since the tires will not last long. with big expensive chrome rims you will fear for them day and night from theft scraps scratches bending. let us see what rims you end up getting. a lot of your generation 7 series owners put on the newest 7 series rims for an updated look. might be cheaper and practical.
good luck

I'm not sure what you are trying to do with it, but i think you should put BMW rims on. There are plenty of styles, and they make the car look great, without making it look like youve got 10 hookers in the back seat.

the ssrs are great. they look sweet. lots of m3 owners choose that one. other bmw rims are fine but they dont have one that is bigger that 18 inches. what ever you do goodluck. youll be fine either way. driving a bmw makes you a baller with class anyways.

New 740i, New Wheels + Lowered?

Hi again, I'm also considering replacing the springs/shocks to lower the car. Can the 740i Sport shocks/springs be installed on a standard 740i?

Sincerely,
Paul

Hi again,

I've been emailing with TireRack regarding 19x10 wheels with 275/35-19's for the rears, and they report:

"On some cars, the 275's can be a bit wide in the back. A few customers
have reported rubbing issues, some haven't. It depends on the car in
each case, every one is built a bit differently."

Does anyone have any experience with this size?

Do you think I might have more fit problems with the 'Sport' shocks / springs / sway bar?

Sincerely,
Paul

you might have to get a camber kit so the wheels fit snug and not rib but if you are sure you want these rims you can always make it work. the 7 series im sure should fit since it comes with pretty wide wheels.

Thanks again; here's another question: I'm also considering lowering the car, using the Bilstein HD's and Eibach springs. I want to achieve a sporty feel with less roll, however I don't want a jarring and overly bumpy ride. Any ideas?

Sincerely,
Paul Rubin

I think for the most part, between getting very large rims, and lowering your car, you are going to experience an unavoidable loss in comfort. I'm not sure, but i would imagine there are ways to keep some comfort, but really its impossable to make it feel as comfortable as stock. Its just part of the fun of having a pimpin car.

Thanks for your reply. I'm aware that some ride comfort is lost when lowering and putting on larger rims; I just wanted to have some idea how stiff the ride becomes with Bilsteins / Eibachs / 19" wheels.

Sincerely,
Paul

OK, the 19" SSR GT3's, Bilsteins and Eibach Springs are on order, and I'll have them installed next week. I'll post again with pictures soon!

Sincerely,
Paul

Here she is, complete with the new 19" wheels and lowered 1.3" all around.
I've got Bilstein sport shocks and Eibach springs;
It still rides wonderfully, with much more road feel.
Plus it looks absolutely fab!
