New to BMW

[R&D Dinan 5]

Hello everyone. I am a new BMW owner. Its a 02 530 Dinan. I have not put many miles on it yet but so far I love it. I do have one small problem the battery on the key needs replaceing does any have any ideas on how to do this are do I need to carry to the dealership to have it done.

Welcome to the board. You should be able to replace the battery yourself, I believe there is a tiny indent where you pop the case open.

Are you sure the key just didn't reset? It's happened to me a couple of times where my key will just stop working and while I think the battery just died- all you have to do is reset it.

Although if that isn't the case and it truly is dead, then there's a small indent in the back which you push in a pull out. It's a real pain in the ass so be sure that's the case before you do it.

from what i've heard, u have 30 seconds to change the battery once the old one is out. otherwise, the key will have to be re-programmed if u have customized settings (seat settings etc.)

Thanks for the info. I think I am just going to take it to bmw and let the look at it. I need to get a extra key anyway.
