I just purchased a very well taken care of 94 740IL. After replacing the tires, control arms, and tie rods in order to get a front end alignment, I took the car out for a small road trip. About 100 miles into the trip I began to receive low temperature alarms from the trip computer and center console. The temperature was alraming at -35 deg F! Because it was in the low 90s outside, I immediatly turned off the A/C and verified that nothing was major was malfunctioning with the engine. I'm figuring that the external temperature sensor must be malfunctioning because that is the reading that is alarming. I was just wondering if anyone else had seen something similar to this?

Thanks for the input. My whole family is loving the 740 experience so far!

Temp Alarm Fixed

I found information on the placement of the sensor and pulled it out to inspect it. On the early 90s model 740s it's located next to the passenger side fog light behind a panel which is held on by a single screw. The sensor itself was in good condition but the cable that went to the connector was damaged and corroded. After repairing the cable and replacing the sensor, the temperature alarm issue has gone away. This sensor is somewhat on the inexpensive side at about $15 and is very easy to replace.
