Hello,

I have decided to buy an e32 7 series, but i dont know which one to get.
My number 1 concern is reliablity, and i have heard a few bad things about the e32's.

I have heard that the 5.0 litre v12 is a bit dodgey, which engine is the most reliable and which engine is the cheapest to maintain??

Thank you for your help, i look forward to being behind the wheel of a beutiful beemer soon.

The 735i/735iL would be the most reliable for any given year, but stopped production after the 1992 model year when they were replaced by the 740i/740iL.

The 750iL is very nice, but a bit more expensive to run given the extra cylinder bank (2 DMEs, 2 air filters, etc.) and the host of luxury amenities.

The 5-speed E32 735i is probably the rarest, most sought-after E32 in the US, save for a few Dinan turbos or imported Alpinas.

Avoid nikasil engined cars (93-95 V8s, although 95 is the first year of the E38 7) like the plague, and pay a lot of attention to transmission issues, as they are prone to failure at 120k or earlier and very expensive.

There are still a number of nikasil cars out there that have not experienced engine failure yet, often due to having been well maintained. In many cases, the cars that were driven hard and had their oil changed per the indicator (every 8-10k on average) are the ones that failed early and had their engines replaced, while the garage queens with low mileage and oil changes every 3k are still waiting to fail.

OK, thanks for your help, i reckon i might go for a 735, but if i was to go for a 740 or 750, which would be the best year to get one from?

Also, which engine is better, the v12 or v8?

Thanks for your help, also, sorry if i am repeating myself a bit, but i have always wanted an e32 7 series, so i want to learn as much as possible about it before i buy my dream car. Thanks.

I had a 91 750iL and loved the car. The ride is wonderful, the car powerful and smooth. It is by far the best road car going. The disadvantage is if something breaks....it can be expensive. Dk Motors, $900.00 each, upper pan gasket leak repair $1,100.00, spark plus wires about $300.00 per side. I sold it only because I feared my wife breaking down some where in it and the expense to repair it.

1995 740I Speakers

Hi everyone:

I am new to this site and am very interested in what is posted. I own a 1995 740I and want to know if there are any rear speakers in the car other than the 4-1/2 " speakers located in the rear doors? It looks like there should be a set of rear speakers located behind the rear seat headrest , but I have yet to hear or see them. thanks for your help
