The oil sensor lamp went on for about 30 seconds everytime I started the car. The dealership just charged me $467 to replace the sensor (part and labor.) Sounds out of line. Is that a rightheous charge?
Thanks,
JAF

oil level sensor

Hi there,

The oil level sensor is actually a very importamt one. It can(and will) stop the car from being started if there's not enough oil in the pan (or if the sensor thinks so).
I'm assuming that the oil light is/was yellow in colour?
Replacing the sensor involves a full oil change, sensor replacement and a full reprogramming/re-encoding of the car.
Often enough short trip driving can cause sensor failure, as condensation (yes, water in the oil) builds up under these conditions, as the oil never gets to full operating temperature.

Just my 2 cents.
