Keyless Remote Entry

I recently purchased a 1994 740i. It has a keyless entry system installed, but did not come with a remote. I purchased a remote, being careful to purchase one with the exact part number. There is a remote keyless-entry security system manual that came with the car, that explains how to program the remote. But the manaul does not say where to find the control unit, it only has a cryptic entry stating "the control unit is concealed within the vehicle". Can anyone tell me where the contol unit can be found. Also, if it is under the back seat with the battery, can anyone also tell me how to get the back seat out.

Okay..I seem to have all the answer for all you beemers folks..I also have a 93~740i and lost the r/control..Your location for your powre unit is under your steering coulum, make sure you pry the trimming using a very thin screwdriver, then go under the dash #10 and screws (4ea) and then you'll see the unit! I got one from ebay that cost 49.00 plus shipping 59.00..and they'll ship you the chip to activiated the unit! Make sure you have a right model that's in your car! Have a great time..

I may be wrong but the battery is in the trunk on the passenger side at least that is where mine is located at.

I was looking for replacement keyless entry remotes not too long ago and I found a site that had them for $44.99 for my 97 M3.

I had them delivered in less than a week and the programming instructions only took maybe 10 seconds?

Anyways, here's a link to the site:

Just type "7 series" in their search box.

We recently purchased a 93 750IL which also had no key with keyless entry. We did purchase a key fob on Ebay and will try to program it next week. We called the Dealer to order an additional key with keyless entry and they told us they could not guarantee the keyless entry would work because they have had problems programming the older cars with keyless entry. Is the dealer just being lazy or is there a problem programming the older model cars?

My guess is lazy, combined with either not having the units in stock anymore, wanting to sell you something else, etc...

The older flat remotes are easy to program.
