Hey all,
I am looking into buying a 94-97 7 series, all that i have seen have a auto tranny, is it possiable to mate a manual tranny to the 7 series v8? would that probably mean a new DME?

I have found a lot of good 7 series between 13-16k man i am starting to love these cars!

Anything is possible! A few months ago in one of the BMW mags, there was an article about such a conversion. It was, I believe performed by the owner of UUC Motorwerks on his own 7 series. He used the manual transmission from an 850. I can't remember what it cost, but I'm sure it was alot!

in europe they had manual 7's
might be best to buy one in canada and import it
What year did they make a manual on the 7's? I just saw a trivia fact on imdb.com about the '99 750i (they call it a 735i in the film) they used in the movie "The Transporter" (anyone seen it?, some awesome driving footage) and it said that the car had to be custom made with a manual transmission because BMW only offered it with automatics.

Now, I'm guessing the new E65s are all automatic only, but like you, I also thought the E38s were offered with a manual, if only for a brief period? Does anyone have any ideas what year(s) this may have been offered, if at all?

I believe the 7 in the movie The Transporter, I have seen it and own a copy, was an e32. I have no idea about the later model 7's, but I know they offered manuals in the e23's.

Ah yes, you're right: it was an E32. I thought it looked a little more dated. Nonetheless, I wonder if it was offered with a manual...same for the E38.

In 1989 ( I'm old!) I was looking for a new car, manual trans only and I saw a 1988 735 5 speed at the dealer. They told me that was the last year the big car was imported with a manual. I ended up buying an Acura Legend. That was a great car!
