Where to find ESN of cell phone on 97 740il?

Can anyone tell me where to find the ESN number of the cell phone in my 97 740iL? This is a non-removable unit - the handset is in sight, but i'm not even sure where the "rest" of the phone is actually located to try to find the ESN...

Any help out there?

It should be on the transponder, either in the trunk or under the drivers seat.

Thanks for the response... it was in the trunk... I've decided to go Bluetooth upgrade as i couldn't get anyone to get this phone activated, even though it works just fine...
